Kathy - Thank you for your post. Yes, there are those that think it is about having the big numbers on their profile. But for experienced Twitter users it is something of a red flag, unless the profile is from a company/personality that calls for those types of numbers. The average small business can not keep up with thousands of people in a manner that creates community and relationship building. On a side note, when deciding who you will follow, be sure to check the "following" count of the user over the "followers". Following reflects the number of people they chose to accept into their network. The following is the community. A larger number that matches the "followers" will mean they follow everyone back and that their goal isn't necessarily to create a community. A really small number will mean they don't follow anyone back and typically are not into communicating outside a very niche group. The most fruitful contacts are the rest of us, who have the average following and only follow those back who are related to our purpose on Twitter.

Julia, I love your first tip and it's the one I need to focus on the most, followed closely by the 4th one - commit more time to it. I know so many other "experts" seem to think it's all a numbers game, but I disagree. If you add the kind of value you're talking about, even a few followers will retweet, and their followers will, and so on and so on!

Kathy - I am so happy that you will be following along this month. I am glad you kept your branding consistent and short. If you want your customers to find you... make it easy for them. We have all come to expect information to be available within seconds of thinking of it, although it wasn't that long ago, we had to pull out the phone book, figure out what category to search under and remember the company name (or read all the listings to find it). Then after all that hard work, we still had to actually call someone up to find out more. Archaic! :)

Love this intro to Twitter! I know I don't use it to its full potential so I'll be 'following' you this month to learn more! Great advice about the Twitter name too. One thing people ask me a lot is why I go by "Kat" on social media and "Kathy" everywhere else and Twitter is the reason why. I wanted to keep my branding as short but recognizable as possible. so I'm @YellowRoseKat on Twitter and facebook.com/YellowRoseKat for my personal profile on Facebook. It keeps it personal but keeps my branding consistent at the same time. :)

Thank you Debbie. You know I tried to use the built in webcam that came with my Dell and was disappointed with the quality. So I tried the $30 - Logitech HD Webcam C270h and it made all the difference.
